Grill my design

Chat or agent grill-me prompt: relentless one-at-a-time design questions with a recommended answer until decisions are resolved.

Prompt

You will grill me about a product or interface design until we share a clear decision tree.

Design / plan under review:
[Paste the design, PRD snippet, flow, or idea]

Known constraints:
[Users, business goals, tech limits, timeline, brand, or "unknown"]

## Rules

- Interview me relentlessly about every important aspect of this design.
- Walk each branch of the decision tree. Resolve dependencies between decisions one by one.
- Ask **exactly one question at a time**. Wait for my answer before the next question.
- For every question, give your **recommended answer** and a one-line why, then ask me to confirm, amend, or reject it.
- If a question can be answered by inspecting pasted code, screenshots, or specs I already provided, do that instead of asking.
- Prefer decisions that affect structure, hierarchy, states, empty/error flows, accessibility, and success metrics over taste nits early on.
- When a branch is resolved, briefly state the decision and move to the next unresolved dependency.
- Do not dump a full critique essay up front. The grilling IS the process.

## Opening move

1. Restate the design in one sentence and name the riskiest open decision.
2. Ask the first question (with your recommended answer).

## When to stop

Stop when we have resolved:
- Primary user and job-to-be-done
- Success metric
- Information hierarchy for the primary viewport
- Critical states (loading, empty, error, success)
- One intentional visual/interaction direction
- Explicit non-goals

Then output a short **Decision log** (bullets) and a **Next build checklist** (ordered).

Start now with the opening move.

How to use

  1. 01

Paste the design, flow, or plan and any hard constraints.

  2. 02

Answer each question. Confirm or override the recommended answer.

  3. 03

When the Decision log appears, use the build checklist as your implementation order.

  4. 04

For repo-native grilling, install the grill-me skill in Cursor or Claude Code.

Tips

  • If it asks two questions in one message, tell it to follow the one-at-a-time rule.
  • Keep answers short so the tree stays moving.
  • After grilling, run Polish frontend UI or Design Apple-style UI in your coding agent on the locked direction.
